The much-anticipated September Nintendo Direct aired on Thursday, and at 40 minutes long, it had a lot on offer. This presentation for September 2019 was teased as focusing primarily on 2019 Switch games, we did get a look at some games releasing in 2020. But without a doubt, the focus was on what you can play on Switch in the next few months--as well as a number of things you can play right now (or this week), such as new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC, SNES games, and a whole lot more. On that front, we have a roundup of the Switch games and DLC released after the Direct that you can pick up right now.
The leaked Switch version of Overwatch was confirmed right at the start of the broadcast, and that was followed by a furious slate of announcements. Everything from Deadly Premonition 2 to additional Smash DLC characters to Star Wars and so many more things were shown. This week's Nintendo Direct on September 4 showed off several games coming to the Switch in the near future. These included the remaster for Xenoblade Chronicles, Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Sword & Shield, and the release of Overwatch in October, which had leaked a few times but was used to kick off the livestream.
It was an impressive Nintendo Direct, but some of the biggest surprises from the broadcast were the reveals of several games and updates that are available now. Below, you'll find a quick rundown of all the games revealed on Thursday that are out now on the Nintendo Switch Eshop. In addition to the reveal of Deadly Premonition Origins (which is suffering from an audio bug that will be patched), Nintendo also showed off co-op brawler Super Kirby Clash and a port for acclaimed RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2. There was plenty of news on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, too, including things that are out now and coming in the future.
Another big piece of news from the Direct was that SNES games are finally coming to the Switch's Nintendo Online service. While they didn't release right after the Direct like the games outlined below, they did arrive just a day later. A batch of 20 SNES games is out now if you're a Switch Online subscriber, getting you access to Breath of Fire, Star Fox, Super Metroid, Super Mario World, and Super Ghouls & Ghosts, among others. Much like the NES games, you'll be able to use saves and the handy rewind feature, and new online multiplayer functionality is available. Also, Nintendo will release a new SNES wireless controller for the Switch, and more SNES games will be added to the library further down the line.
Out now, Super Kirby Clash is a 'free-to-start' action game that lets a group of players control a squad of multi-colored Kirbys. In this co-op driven game, you'll face off against different enemies from Kirby's past with a variety of different weapons and powers. You'll even be able to customize your own version of Kirby with a multitude of different armor sets.
